Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has clarified that the new narcotics law does not legalize the unrestricted planting of marijuana in an apparent response to Bhumjai Thai party’s manifesto pledge to legalize marijuana cultivation.

FDA secretary-general Dr. Tharet Kratnairaveewong said on Friday that the new law, now in force, only allows for limited cultivation of marijuana with the cooperation a state agency withprior permission from the Narcotics Control Committee.

The FDA is expected to issue three ministerial announcementsnext week exempting doctors, researchers, community enterprises, patients and others who have registered with the FDA or with health offices, from legal action for possession and cultivation of the plant.

Blah Blah Blah!

Once a country begins going down the path of legalization for medical usage, the die is cast for eventual full legalization; the only remaining question is precisely when.

Thailand, if you are smart, you will proceed immediately to the full legalization stage, tax it, and make a financial killing. The first country in Asia to take this step will do very well and have a huge marketing advantage; laggards will be mere bit players.

There is big big money to be made; fortune favours the bold!

Agreeing with the good sense of the above comment I, however, do not see any chance of this happening under the present ruling elite who have waged an endless useless war against drugs for so long that they feel obliged to continue their stupidity as an act of 'saving face'.

The Thai government should appoint a couple of players to go visit the industries in Colorado and Washington and adjust accordingly.

So Kratom is also in the same category? I am wondering if by 'medicinal' use they are talking about some kind of lab made pill form??? or is it literally a small bag of weed or dried kratom leaves handed over by a doctor...or some kind of 'traditional' doctor of medicine?

Anyone know or is it too early to tell?

Monopoly by the few powerful boys!!

Surprised at the lack of apparent action by the “big players” to exploit the progress made. But maybe the action is behind closed doors.

There will be resistance from the police and army to stopping the “war on drugs” as it will lead to budget cuts and disruption of the recycling of seized contraband. DEA In US also resisted.

Here the resistance will diminish when the new revenue streams resulting from legalization become apparent.

Bhumjai Thai candidates here are paying 200 baht to people and saying everyone will get cannabis plants to grow and sell back to them if they win.

What the Bhumjai Thai party is stating is that throwing citizens in jail for growing and using marijuana is something that needs to end.  If the status quo stays in office, then the Machiavellian laws stay in place; elect a new government into office and things will change. That's giving the population a democratic say in government policies that tend to throw otherwise good citizens in jail for a prohibition whose time is coming to an end.

This is clearly what will happen, but people who have been stupid so many years cannot change in one day, so please give them more time to think about the $$$ millions that they will make yearly ❤️

And the price will drop like a stone and in the end nobody will make any money from it.

India was the first in Asia to legalize and tax it.

the usage of bhang is governed by the National Policy on Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, which acknowledges that the “production and sale of Bhang is permitted by many State Governments.” Every state has its own policy on licensing and and quota for distribution, some earning lakhs by taxation on it.
