WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump told U.S. state governors at the White House on Sunday he was happy so long as North Korea continues its pause in weapons testing.

Trump, who was speaking on the eve of his departure for his second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Vietnam, also said that he believed he saw eye to eye with Kim and that they had developed "a very, very good relationship."

The two leaders will meet in Hanoi on Wednesday and Thursday, eight months after their historic summit in Singapore, the first between a sitting U.S. president and a North Korean leader, where they pledged to work towards the complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

But their vaguely worded agreement has produced few results and U.S. Democratic senators and security officials have warned Trump against cutting a deal that would do little to curb North Korea's nuclear ambitions.

"I'm not in a rush. I don't want to rush anybody," Trump said. "I just don't want testing. As long as there's no testing, we're happy."

The Trump administration has pressed the North to give up its nuclear weapons programme, which combined with its missile capabilities, pose a threat to the United States, before it can expect any concessions.

But in recent days, Trump has signalled a possible softening, saying he would love to be able to remove sanctions if there is meaningful progress on denuclearisation.

Just when you thought he couldn't say anything dumber...

Yes, MAGA is about going back in time.  Looks like they've reached 1959.  Welcome back, Cold War!

But of course, anything counter to DT's words and wishes is fake news.

Mr Trump needs any win he can get. Not doing so well at home, made a phony deal before with little kim

and needs a second crack at it. No one mentions that it will be at the behest of China.

Which is a change from acting at the behest of Putin.

Not one thing has changed with the current state of affairs. Rocket man still has his nukes and rockets.

Rocket man demanded to be noticed. Every sane person put him off as a very minor tantrum player.

Mr Trump immediately recognised a fellow tyrant. And embraced him. Good luck.

Because if China and Russia do not approve the deal, it will not happen. Chump Trump

Trump realizes there is little to be done except keep the sanctions going. If anything more positive than the status quo happens it is a victory. Other than that if they don't test missiles there is no cause for military force.

The situation hasn't really changed. North Korea could take a shot and they would be wiped off of the planet. All of this nuclear posturing with NK and Russia doesn't matter. More missiles, faster missiles, submarines doesn't matter unless somebody strikes first.

At least Kim can get all the goods NK lacks and bring it back on his train. He must be happy his American commander was altruistic enough to let him off of house arrest if only temporarily. It does Kim good to see how the "normal" world operates.

Singapore must have been quite an eye opener for him.

Well obviously Obama was okay with it he just ignored the problem.  At least there are some negotiations going on.  At least give the guy a chance to do something.  Such bias.

Hmm..you did not fully use the distracting email template used by the orange menaces cult followers - You forgot to mention Hillary Clinton in your post. You can not post an effective diversionary post which tries to distract from the topic - the orange menace and his cult followers - without posting about Secretary of State Clinton. Toss in few lies about her tenure in office and you will have followed the template.
