Tourist Visa In Hong Kong

I need to get a tourist visa next week and am going to Hong Kong.

has anyone been there recently and can you advise how long it takes to process.

I am allowing two working days (submit Monday morning and pick up Tuesday I hope).

I am trying for a 6 month or 3 month multi entry, failing that a single entry visa.

Any info appreciated.

I had emailed the consulate and got a reply from them saying it takes 2 working days and that the 3 month multiple entry visa is a business one not a tourist one.

Has anyone managed to get a double/multiple entry tourist visa from HK consulate ?

I can confirm the two day part of your question. I went in December. Turn in one morning and pick up the next day.

Pretty sure you can only get a single entry though, unless you are a HK resident. I only needed a sigle entry.

Best check that both days are are working days too.

FYI, I went first week of January. I got a Tourist Visa 60 day issued.

They are on (i think) the 9th floor. They start to let you in the building at 9 am. Once you go to the 9th floor, to the right of the elevator are the waiting chairs. The first row of chairs, sit at the first on on the left side. They open the door at 9:30 and then you get the ticket. As soon as your ticket comes up, you go to the window.

Make sure that you have a copy of your picture page of the passport, a copy of the passport entry stamp page from HK. Also the application which you can download from the thai (HK consulate) webpage. If you don't have copies, the building across the street, right next to Bank of America building will make photocopies. Ask information and they have the building office on the 9th floor, with a photo copy machine. Bring money too.

I tried to get a longer visa, but they said no. They follow the 'law' pretty much letter for letter, if that is possible (regarding thai visa laws).

As soon as you drop off, you can pick up next day from 9:30. Total time spent at the consulate was 10 minutes, five to drop off all filled out paperwork, five to pick up next day.

Make sure and call about holidays or being closed, as the advice offered here by people was not right when I went (they were open, told they were closed here).

they said they were working mon/tue next week so I should be OK.

my only problem is that I have to leave Thailand again at end of March so will have to get a further visa if it is a single entry.... will see.

If you need to travel during the validity of your permitted to stay stamp and will return before it expires you can obtain a re-entry permit prior to travel for 1,000 baht that will keep that stay alive (and the possibility of the normal 30 day extension later).

I used Air Asia to Macau, it was half price flight.

Of course I had to take ferry over which cost 120 hk dollars, but it drops you right in Kowloon or Central side (Central side for consulate), so coming from airport in HK you still have to pay something for taxi or train to town...

Airasia also had very late flights so if you plan it right you can pick up your visa and take ferry to Macau and then fly out (I think my flight was 10 pm)....

I did consider that but emirates are doing a cheap deal at moment so am going with them. I have to carry luggage as well as I have some business meetings over there. I might try air asia when I go back end of March to watch the HK Rugby 7s ...

the consulate is on 8th floor of Fairmount House, 8 cotton tree drive, central (very close to Admiralty MTR station and Lipo Centre).

you can get a tourist visa there, I just got one today.

you do need to do the photocopies as they keep them. they also keep your passport 1 day while they are processing the visa.

cost is 200 HKD, down load the form and fill in ahead of time or get the form at their office. you need one passport sized photograph too.

normal tourist visa is single entry, you can get a double entrytourist visa but only if you show two return flight tickets to Thailand.

Thats an interesting way to get to Hong Kong, just checked the Air Asia website and i can get a return ticket Macua for 4,500 baht, flew last week with Emirates and i paid nearly 9k (still good deal) - what about the ferries from Macau, do they run all day / night? any info on them? does the same visa allow you to go to Macua and then Hong Kong and i take it you get visa on arrival in Macua? (Im a brit)

Any info on this route to get to Hong Kong would be good. Cheers.

As a Brit, you don't need a visa to arrive in either Macau or Hong Kong. The ferries from Macau to Hong Kong run all night, except from between 4.00 am and 7.00 am. Hope that helps.

Ferries run Macau to Hong Kong more or less round the clock. Night time might not be very frequent, but during the day they go every 20 to 30 minutes. There is an option at Macau Airport to get a ferry without clearing Macau immigration, but personally I wouldn't bother with that. Trip takes about 1 hour. Get the ferry to Central and not Kowloon for the Thai Embassy.

Make sure you tell the taxi driver you want the pier for Hong Kong. The other pier only serves China and is further away. Taxi ride should take about 20 minutes and cost about 40 patacas (about 180 baht). There is a small surcharge from the airport.- about 5 patacas I think, but I can't remember now.

Cost of the ferry is about 5-600 baht,but prices are higher after 6p.m.

With a British passport you will not need a visa for either Macau or Hong Kong.

If you have time take a look around Macau. It is an interesting place - food is not bad either. Of course there are the cassinos
