If all the other airlines could do it then why Thai air could not?

Because apparently you need permission to overfly the airspace of a country - who'd have thought.

Singapore Airlines, for example, already have air routes over Turkey and Iran - regular routes they use and have permission for.  Thai do not.  Thai sought permission from China to use a route through their airspace and as soon as that permission was granted they rerouted this way.

You can criticise Thai Airlines for many things (and I do) but people saying this is a failure of the airline because "why didn't they just go a different way" is ridiculous and just typical TV Thai bashing in my opinion; no logic or thought to it, just bash away.

I love THAI Airways. Not the cheapest but nice service direct between LHR/BKK twice daily. Only ever book economy flex fares but frequently upgraded at no extra cost. First and business is always well subscribed with well connected freeloading Thai HiSos. I love economy (especially TG916) as more often than not get 3 seats for myself.

Copy that,Better than BA and EVA IMHO...
