MoU signed to certify Thai products

 

   

BANGKOK, 7 March 2019 (NNT) - The Foreign Trade Department of Thailand’s Commerce Ministry has signed an agreement with the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) on product certification.

 

The memorandum of understanding (MoU), inked on Tuesday, allows the department to certify three products of Thailand – Hom Mali rice, cassava flour and cotton – and the TCC to certify six products – corn, green beans, black mung beans, sorghum, cassava products and fish meal. Producers of these products can request certification from March 15. Also, under the agreement, both agencies will be able to exchange real-time information on product certification.

 

Adul Chotinisakorn, Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade, said certification can help save costs and reduce customs procedures, as well as allow the government to create a database of certified goods.

 

The export of the nine products totaled 140 billion baht last year, an increase of 9.44 percent year on year, with cassava flour raking in the highest revenue, followed by Hom Mali rice.

I think the certification is so they can have their logo stamped on the plastic bags with rotten rice given to tourists at the airport. Almost famous and all that.
