Do I need to contact thai embassy in vietnam before applying for new SETV for Thailand?

Featured Replies

Hello, I am a bit confused regarding this situation. I am sure this answer has been found somewhere but i cannot find it/or the search results are'nt exactly what I want.

Anyway, I arrived end of november to Thailand,(SETV) used my 60 days, went to immigration in CNX, got a new stamp for 30 days, after that was up my gf drove me up to burma, i crossed the border and came back in for another 30 days.

Since these 30 days are expiring soon I know now that I have to leave Thailand for x amount of time, and since the waiting times for Vientiane are crazy long now, I wont be able to get an appointment on time for a new visa there so we are thinking of flying to vietnam in the next few days and applying for a new SETV there.

Can i just show up to the thai embassy in hanoi/hochiminh and apply for a new SETV for thailand there? or do I have to apply in advance before we go?, also do they ask for proof of funds?

Thank you so much. Again, apologies if this has been asked before.

Cheers

Edit: this has been my first time to Thailand

Can't you get a further 30 day Extension on your 30 day visa exempt entry at the land border?

Savannakhet Laos, the embassy in Hanoi and the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City do not have a appointment system now.

The embassy in Kuala Lumpur has an appointment system but there is no long wait to get an appointment. Just checked there are appointments available for tomorrow.

Edit: They all want proof of the equivalent of at least 20k baht in a bank and a ticket out of the country.

He is on a 30 day extension of the 60 day entry from a tourist visa now. Not a visa exempt entry.

But he could do a border run to Mae Sai for a 30 day visa exempt entry if he qualifies for one.

He already said his GF drove him to the Burma border and his SETV had already been used.

you can only get two stamps on an SETV correct? hence why I need to fly out now (One stamp@ immigration & one @ mai sai) Also Thanks for the quick replies.

she is thai and has bugged me to go to vietnam anyway so I think we can go there for a few days. Anyone have an idea how long the SETV would take to be approved in hanoi or hochiminh?

Has anyone had any luck buying a paper ticket showing a departure ticket from thailand when they are present at immigration? like the ones from kiwi.com? I dont want to buy a ticket out of thailand just yet and then have to cancel it, losing more money in the process. Thanks

I guess I missed that or he added it when he did an edit.

He could get a 30 day extension of it unless it is from a bilateral agreement.

You can only get one extension of a tourist visa entry. There is not restriction on doing another entry and a extension of it.

You could extend your current 30 day entry if you wanted to.

It is next day service at both of them.

The embassy or consulate wants a print out of the ticket.

The consulate in Ho Chi Minh City will accept a ticket out of the country within 90 days from the date you apply.

Just buy a one way ticket to any nearby country on a low cost carrier.

Regarding your onward ticket it must be a printout and have word "confirmed" or similar, meaning its been paid for. You drop your paperwork in am and pick up pm next day, so just take that into account with flights to somewhere like Saigon. Spending few night a relax gig.
