A Reliable Lawyer.

Hi,

Could anyone recommend a good lawyer or law firm proficient in laws regarding Farangs living in Thailand, maybe we could add a valuable resource. It just seems that this is the fundamental starting point for nearly any kind of settlement in this country and it would be nice to have a one stop shop where you could choose a reputable lawyer that is close to your location, proficient in the area of law you need, within your cost range and most fundamentally honest!!

I cannot, but I am constantly asked, useful extras would be:

Name:

Address:

Phone No:

Languages spoken:

Specialist areas:

Cost:

Why you would recommend: (Personal experience, Embassy endorsed etc)

Lawyers need not apply!

If someone knows a good link to such information that would be good too but I just think that people with personal experiences would be more reliable.

TIA

Every Embassy has a list of preferred lawyers available, and the lists indicate their areas of expertise and language capabilities.

Thanks Dr,

Have you ever used any of them?, I tried contacting some of them once from the US Embassy list by email, I didn't even get a reply I also heard they are usually expensive and are not that interested in small domestic type cases, but, at least a starting point and thanks for that.

I needed a lawyer one time in mexico and I got a list of lawyers from the American embassy,,I asked if they were any good and the person that gave me the list said "we have no idea of anything about them, They give us their name and address and we post it,and if you find that they are to crooked or are not what they claim, you tell us and we take their name off the list" now thats what you get from the embassy.

The lists in embassies can only be a start. The bad news, you have to work on it.

Fix appointments, visit their offices and explain your problem. That first step is foc (free).

Once you get a feeling that the lawyer understands your problem you reached the first step of trust.

The next point: You have to tell the lawyer what you want. S/he translates that in legal language, or tells you that it will not work.

Never expect a lawyer, to work for you when you just 'dump' your case on him. Work with him.

BKK has good law firms, as any big city. It will not help you. You don't go for the guys on the top of the letterhead and they won't take your case but delegate to some juniors who are not even on the page. (Ever went to a hospital ER late at night? That's where the apprentices work and same is true for law firms)

Finally, go to court only if no other way is open. Everything else costs money and does not bring anything.

In rare cases, I use lawyers and if I did, it was always me brooding over the papers for hours and hours, than dsiscussing with the lawyer what to do.

T&G is in my opinion No 1 in Bangkok, but again, you will not deal with the top honcho.

Sorry, not more I can advice.

I agree with you there Axel. Tilleke and Gibbins are good all rounders, and the foreign lawyers there remove any communication difficulties you might face. Baker & McKenzie are excellent too, but as dear as poison. The world wide nature of B & McK makes them great for big corporate clients.

Not only is this guy a lawyer....he is a fortune teller as well. Most Bangkokians have seen at least one of his offices:

Moziman, you could try a gent named Ron Cristal. He's Thai and educated most of his life in the US. A farang real estate agent I know swears by him. He's not a

mega corporate guy so he may be what you're looking for. His number is:

02-231-6201, 02-235-4654.

Having a fortune teller cum lawyer, he'd know the outcome of your case well in advance of the Court hearing. :o
