Indian man, Thai girlfriend arrested for deceiving Indian tourist in Pattaya

Pattaya police Tuesday morning arrested an Indian man and his Thai girlfriend for cheating an Indian tourist out of Bt6,000 in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

 

Pattaya police chief Pol Col Prawit Chorseng said Maninder Singh, 26, and Mallikar Thongriam, 32, were arrested shortly after Sahu Anupam, 31, filed a complaint with a police patrol on Pattaya Walking Street. Police were able to retrieve Bt5,350 from the two suspects.

 

Anupam told police that Singh approached him while he was exploring the walking street and persuaded him to go to a pub, saying that he knew the owner.

 

 

Anupam added that when the pub was handing out the bills at 1am, he was told he had to pay Bt5,521, including the drinks of Singh and his girlfriend.

 

Singh then offered to talk to the pub owner to negotiate a 20-per-cent account so Anupam handed him Bt6,000 to pay the pub owner.

 

When Singh left the table. Mallikar excused herself, saying she was off to the Ladies, and the pair disappeared together.

 

Police later found them dining in a restaurant not far from the pub.

 

Police also found that Singh had overstayed his visa by 724 days.

Don,t they say "When in a foreign country, beware of your own" ! I have seen this happen many many times. The Thai will charge you 50 Bht for a 10 Bht songtaew ride, but it will be the farang who is after your life savings ????

Only 700 days plus overstay ????

There is a certain amount of elegant cruelty in this story, they let themselves get bought drinks before they cheat him, doing him a favour, no less, by getting him a discount, Anupam must have felt grateful right up until the bar demanded he pay the bill.

What a cute couple! They were born to be together. And some people assume that Thai women don't like Indians. Partners in crime and curry smell with some spicies!

"When in a foreign country, beware of your own" - that's a good advice. I'm German by passport, and the Germans say quite clearly "Friendship ends when it comes to money". 

First golden rule in any of these water holes either in Thailand or elsewhere....pay as you consume...don't wait to be ripped off with only one final bill...one drink served, one bill paid straight away...and of course, before ordering, ask for the price.

I guess Big Joke miss Singh on his quest to nap overstayers. Must have thought Singh was one of the quality tourists from the sub continent that TAT is cultivating.
