Thaksin is an economic hero and a saviour of the Thai grassroots majority of country people and farmers that maintains that in his times as a PM life were good and plenty and money was to be made, which is true as he showers gifts and freebies on everyone to win people's heart through their pockets, and this is news because now, he has be dealt a humiliation to be stripped of rank and honors that are very important to Thai hi-so...

 

As an alternative theory, would it be because, though he was as corrupt as all the politicians, he was strong enough to control access to the trough so there wasn't a free-for-all?  As a consequence, there was enough money left over to grow the economy (or at least give it a glimmer of hope), and for some of the benefits to trickle down to the masses.

 

Every successful Asian economy started on the road to success with a strong (albeit corrupt) man who was able to control access to the trough so there was enough wealth left over to grow the economy.  Without that, the unfettered corruption bleeds a country dry, leaving nothing to invest in the future.  Which seems a pretty accurate description of what's been happening in Thailand.

Maybe just maybe you could manage to quote a post in the right way. I never said this. Altough it is certainly not without merit. Thaksin's conviction was everything but sound. What else could be expected of the Thai "justice system".
