As of press time, the National Wage Committee has decided to postpone a decision on the minimum wage to later this month, even though the new rate was initially expected to be announced from the beginning of April.

Both employers and employees have good reasons to anxiously wait for the announcement of the new rate after it became a hot topic during the political campaign preceding the general election.

During the campaign, political parties promised to raise the minimum wage to lure voters. For example, Palang Pracharat Party proposed to increase the rate to a maximum Bt425 per day over a span of three years while Pheu Thai Party vowed to hike the minimum wage to Bt400.

Thais  don't deserve  a  minimum wage in MANY cases, they are simply un productive preferring to sit around on their backsides, endless  chatter  no concentration and poor  work ethic.

No surprises here. Same as any other politician anywhere in the World. Promise the Earth, deliver bugger all, except into their own pockets of course.

Politicians post election excuse book................

When someone’s pay is 300 baht a day, the work ethic is bound to be appropriate to it.

Wouldn't  matter if it was  600, it would be the same ethic

For your information only, the existing and proposed minimum daily wage is for those having a job and working for it.

For  your information only , many don't deserve it.

Why do condominiums etc cost as much/more as the west, yet the materials are of lesser quality, and the labour is 1/25th.? The developers margins are obscene! They're allowed by poor government (on purpose or not)policy that ignores a decent wage of 2500b+a day will:....create demand to be trained in the trades, forward the wealth through consumer consumption then tax base. Give incentive for achieving a respectable income. Eliminate the abandoned projects. Reduce inventory, and expose pricing to real supply/demand market..NOT.. cheap production.

Imo  the developers are making off like bandits before the monies properly follow through the economy to benefit all... not much different than zero$$ tours. Good quality trades people are worth a respectable income and should set the bar on income scales
