The Pattaya News reported that there is a fake policeman on the loose in the area.

The man claims to be of the rank of lieutenant colonel - a senior position in the force.

He has been extorting money in Koh Larn, Jomtien and Bang Lamung and gets victims to send money to a bank account.

The Pattaya police have said none of that sort of thing goes on in Pattaya.

The case came to light when the head of the Bang Lamung pharmaceutical association Chinawat Raekcharoen, 60, went to the cops in Pattaya after the fake cop tried to extort 15,000 baht from him for the sale of some reflective vests.

Chinawat insisted on the money being handed over at the police station but the man balked at this saying it should be transferred to his private account.

When Chinawat insisted it had to be the station the cop cried off sick. He was lucky not to fall victim, he said.

At the station it emerged that the fake cop was impersonating Lt-Col Saranyapong Maithongkunthorn also known as Officer Go.

He said that vendors in Koh Larn, Jomtien and Pattaya had been approached by a man pretending to be him in several cases recently.

An investigation is underway to try and trace the account being used.

Lt-Col Saranyapong said that extortion of this nature did not go on in the Pattaya area.

Don't say those are banned too ?, after all they could save

lives, if motorbike riders wore them.

regards worgeordie

In Thailand they have fake and deep fake,  we have learned to live with almost daily stories of all sorts of fakes and impersonation of high ranking police, army and government officials, mostly thai people who are the one to get stung  and fall prey to those tricksters, so good luck to them...

There are no FAKES here just mistakes.........:whistling:

Fairly idiotic comment, given that quite clearly from the details given in this article it does.

Stupid fake cop doing the wrong extortion.

I should blend right in with Pattaya's Fake Beach, wearing a Thai Fake smile..

He meant, of course, by REAL police.

Though I'll grant you, that is equally idiotic!

Rooster

Another 500 baht fine?

A bullet is a more permanent deterrent, and sends a convincing message too.

Somebody clearly made a typo in the article's headline. It certainly should have read:

Pattaya Beware! Fake policemen on the loose

Pattaya such a family friendly place this story is very disturbing. Would not be happening if big joke was not sidelined!!

May be the cops got clever and traced the bank account...

Anything to do with someone having to report to the 20th floor of Building #1 ???

Everything is fake in this country, even my watch. And my fake wife.

I know in pattaya this fake girl but who cares its minor detail.

Now, color me simple, but couldn't they track down this imposter by the bank account he gave to the victims to extort the money?

The Pattaya police have said none of that sort of thing goes on in Pattaya.

:cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:

I wouldn't be surprised if the colonel is a real cop after all.

Thai police are so corrupt and stupid they wouldn't know for sure who is legit in the station or not .
