This is what Songkran Festival can do to Bangkok roads in the first morning of the traditional Thai New Year.

Thais celebrate the New Year festival with a four-day long holiday from April 13-16.

As most people head back to their home provinces for Songkran for family reunions, the city is left unusually tranquil.

Those who remain in the capital can enjoy the quiet surroundings and escape the usual hustle and bustle of big city life.

Enjoy your peaceful morning Bangkokians before water splashing activities begin later in the afternoon.

I used to love Bangkok during this time of year and lived very near that first photo.

Looks terrific but I suspect the photo was snapped early morning just at the moment there was no traffic in sight.

Charansanitwong rd was a race track from 10 am to evening last night. Noisiest its ever been. Went quiet later on.

Cops must of been out collecting fines.

Ekamai was jammed pack at about 11 am. and continued to be jammed until after 14.00.

I know because we were stuck in the traffic.

This is a promotion for original bangkok people

after 2 day finish this special promotion

It's not like this in the day time. These pictures have been taken at first light

We were stuck in busy traffic on Sukhumvit rd (Emporium to Asoke)...

The roads are quieter, but not quiet at the misleading article intends to have us believe.

I left Central Chidlom at 1 p.m. today to go to Rangsit, and it was a very quick trip along Viphavadee-Rangsit Road.

traffic in my area of bangkok is about 20% of what it usually is.

songkran used to be mad here, people/water/powder everywhere, the past three years it has got quieter year by year. the locals are pretty laid back. the only people behaving like idiots are foreigners and asian tourists.

its been great where I stay  had the loud music most of the day and plenty of traffic yesterday

today peace and quite hardly any traffic in the Soi  or main road most places closed

and still 2 days to go of peace and bliss
