BANGKOK, 15 April 2019 (NNT) - Silom Road continues to be a popular Songkran festival venue among both the Thai and international tourists filling the road and playing with water.

Silom road this year is still allowing the general public to play with water during the Songkran festival, but without any staged events. Despite this, the number of visitors to the venue has not declined.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has coordinated with the metropolitan police station in the area, as well as the district office, military and city law enforcement offices, to deploy officials on site providing safety protection.

The entrance to the water playing area has been moved from in front of the Dusit Thani hotel to the front of Soi Silom-Saladaeng, providing a single entry and exit point with some 400 officials on site to check for any suspicious activities in all alleys to prevent anyone from bringing in alcohol, weapons, or high-pressure water guns into the area. All sales of items on the pavement and road are strictly prohibited.

Officials from the Tourist Police and English, Chinese speaking interpreters are also on site to assist tourists.

The general public are advised to be careful of thieves and to keep a close watch over their children in the big crowds. It is expected some 100,000 people will celebrate the festival in Silom daily. The water play area is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. until 15 April 2019.
