I went to Laem Ngop immigration on the 22/4/19 with wifey and asked if there would be a problem changing from retirement visa (due in Aug)to marriage visa i was told no, the lady then took us to the counter with the forms,and produced a list of the requirements written in Thai, " i'll go make a copy" which she duly did and returned with ONE copy still in Thai. I asked how many Thais need to make this visa and why not have it in English, "your wife can explain it" Mmmm anyway she then explained it to my wife. It appears that all is required as normal 2 copies of all the normal docs and bank statement Plus photos of us together in all rooms of the house the one in the bedroom both sit on the bed in an embrace and outside showing the num of the house. money only in bank for 2 months but ill make it 3 just incase.

I was warned to make sure i apply at least seven days before my current extension expires. 

I hope this may help anyone thinking of changing visa status.

Money in Bank OR enough with the letter from embassy certifying B.65.000.- and Bank statment.?

Unless you are going to the same office as the OP, his normal docs may not be the same as your offices normal. Most offices will have a handout that lists the documents and requirements they want

What was your problem with the marriage visa. Our IO want me to change to marriage.

I have done both, not much difference, especially now with some offices wanting the return visit after 90 days for the retire extension. A couple of photos and a 5 minute home visit . drop in a month later for pick up.

The advantages are less money in bank or income and you can spend it during the year, I can work if I want, more of a path to permanent resident.

It would depend on what each IO offices interpretation of the rules are.

It may be. But leaving 800k in the bank for five months and then 400 K for the next seven months is a big difference for some of us. Normally we would bring in 800 K and leave it only for three months. And then use the money for yearly expenses!

See this report - appears Udon Thanni thinks you can't spend the 400K for 6 months, now when married:

 

... will see if this spreads to other offices, or they are told to cut it out.  I doubt there will be any oversight to get them to follow the rules, though.

And as if a "fake wife" wouldn't cooperate with all the useless picture junk they ask for.  They are going to do a home-visit anyway, which actually has some merit from an investigative POV.

The only photos requested from me was one in front of house showing house number on mail box and 3 standing in front of house together, none inside required.

Here in Mahasarakham you also need a form called Korosong which you will get from your Ampher office. This is to show you have not divorced. Plus letter from bank and statement for last 2 months

When they do the house visit they will want to interview a neighbour who can state you have been living there.

 

I changed from marriage to retirement for past 3 years. I will revert to marriage (400 k in bank) . I still have photos from from then.Any reason I couldn’t reuse them- who would know,we haven’t changed in appearance?
