Future Forward party eyes role in local politics

The Future Forward party says it will open a new chapter in local politics by not just fielding candidates in local elections, but also by helping local people design policies that respond to their specific needs.

Party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit announced today that the party will create another political phenomenon after its stunning success in the March 24th general election.

The party came third in the election, after the Pheu Thai and Palang Pracharat parties, beating old and well-established parties such as the Democrat, Bhumjaithai, Chart Thai Pattana and Chart Pattana parties.

How could anybody insinuate such a thing? Look at Chiang Mai's world class footpaths, hanging wires, police traffic enforcement, garbage removal, pollution control - testimonies to the great job local government is doing.

Yes, look at the reforesting of the Doi Suthep hillside development and the abandonment of the occupants from residences built there. Reality is that the government made promises in response from public pressure but hasn't really met the needs of the people.

Grassroot local politics to be an effective force for change requires support of national level political leadership.

I am rooting for TJ 100%, but having lived here for decades I just know he is going to end up in a ditch.

Hounded into exile would be my guess. He is too rich, popular and influential to end up in a nasty 'accident'. The public simply wouldn't buy it, plus if he has the sense he was born with, there will be dirt on lots of 'Good People' in various safety deposit boxes around the country for a little insurance....

Future Forward won in Pattaya. I hope they come to sort out things here.

Pattaya is a complete dump in nearly every soi currently, getting worse and worse by the day, rubbish dumped and blowing around everywhere and getting into the waterways every time it rains.

They keep coming up with plans, “beautification” projects that cost a fortune. But they never clean up the rubbish.

A reasonable insinuation given that local governments are paid (Thai Niyom) and told what to do by the junta. Even the PM appoints governors at his whim and fancy.

Example: he used Article 44 to sack Governor Sukhumbhand who was a Democrat Party politician and replace him with one of his military buddies, Pol Gen Asawin.

One of the roles of the Bangkok Governor is to coordinate and carry out the orders of the Cabinet of Thailand, the Prime Minister and the Ministry of the Interior.

Again with Pattaya the PM appointed well connected friend and ally Mr Sontaya to the position of Mayor.

Heads of local government and their administrations are nothing more than junta puppets.

Go for it Thanathorn and Buddha be with you.

As they have been and some still are Thaksin puppets
