Chopper Repairs

I have a Honda Steed 600cc & just recently have had problems with flat battery. I have had work done on the bike within the last 6 months re-new leads oil & water change of plugs. This was by choice only. Since this work the bike will not start if left over 2 days then the battery is flat. I have also purchased a new battery. Anybody have an ideas what the prblem is? I live in the Prachinburi Kabinburi provience & if anyone knows of any chopper repair shops this would be a great help.

NOW DESPERATE TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PROBLEM!!!

Something is draining the battery or the new battery is no good. Try disconnecting the battery and see if it starts after 4 days, make sure battery is fully charged. If it won't start being disconnected then it's the battery, take it back, should have 3mo. warranty. If it starts after 4 days then you're looking for a short.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have re charged the old battery several times before buying a new one. The same thing happens with the new. If I use the bike in the evening for example then the next morning use it to go to work then no problem. If I leave at the weekend then use again on the Monday the battery is not flat it will try to start but will not fire then after a short while the battery is flat. Could this be sub standard plugs I had changed because since I changed the plugs I have had this problem?

Viagra always works on my old chopper!

But...it does sound like a short if the battery is going down without you touching the bike or is it going flat after yoyu've churned the engine over for a while?

Check the water level in the batery and top up with distilled water if necessary...I wouldn't putit past them to supply you with an empty battery.

A slow short will drain the batery over a few days....make sure your brake light isn't staying on or something stupid like that. Always check the simple things first.

Is the battery fitted correctly? Nothing touching something it shouldn't?

If it's not the battery a short somewhere is probably the problem. The other thing is the battery simply may be be getting enough of a charge when the bike is running.

Have your charging system checked.

Does your headlight come on automatically?

If so have it put on a seperate switch and turn it off when you start the bike. Most big bike pull a lot of power to start and so does the headlight.

I have similar problem on my Yamaha 535 if I have the light on on the first start in the morning it is not going to start. As a norm now once a week I charge the battery just a bit as a part of my normal weekly maitanace. That has completly illiminated my problems.

Good Luck

Hi Tony, as you know i have virtually no knowledge of anything mechanical, but thinking about it the problem seems to have started since you had those"plug leads" changed when you was working in Chainat ?

Best thing try to find a decent mechanic to take a look for you.

Pete,

The plugs wont lead to as flat battery I know, but the engine is trying to start but after many attempts the battery goes flat, this happens when I haven't used it for a couple of days. When it starts it's no problem only when I don't use it do I get the hassle.

Hi Pete, You & me both no about as much about mechanics as we do about brain surgery!!! I've sent you an email for a couple of other topics when you have time to look

Cheers lads for the response,
