BANGKOK, (NNT) - A meeting of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has resolved that 62 of its orders that have been issued since 2014 will be made into law. The Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, has instructed security agencies to tighten their security measures to ensure public safety during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

Prime Minister Prayut said security agencies will continue to look after the safety of the people in southern Thailand. Gen. Prayut said he has instructed the agencies to beef up their security measures during the Ramadan period, while asking the general public to understand and cooperate with the authorities.

"The security personnel, including soldiers, police and civil servants, are performing their duties to protect the lives and property of all people. However, I have instructed them to tighten their security measures, especially in setting up checkpoints and gathering intelligence. Concerning officers being stricter at security checkpoints, I ask everyone to understand their work because there are consequences when they are more stringent. This is all for the safety of the people and property. I ask for your cooperation. If you notice anything suspicious, you can immediately notify the authorities," PM Prayut added.

Following the NCPO’s meeting on Tuesday morning (Apr 30), Gen. Prayut said a committee has been set up to consider which of the council’s order issued since 2014 are still necessary. He said the orders that are considered unnecessary will be revoked while the relevant orders will be turned into legislation.

An assistant spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, Maj. Gen. Athisit Chainuwat, said the Deputy Prime Minister, Prof. Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam, had had informed the cabinet of the results of the NCPO’s meeting, including 62 of the orders that will be made into law. Some of the orders, including an order to tackle the legal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU), have been issued by Gen. Prayut under Section 44. Relevant ministries will be responsible for considering these orders and taking steps to turn them into legislation.

I suppose at least it shouldn't eat into the daytime budget too much.

You would have thought this would be a job for the new Government!

I presume that we'll get to know what these orders being made into law are, or do we just pay through the nose when we fall foul!

He's right about this, the killing toll usually goes up in Ramadan as to die for Allah in the 'Holy' month wipes away all sin.

Good reporting may have included Ramadan dates

And PS: The southern provinces remain under a State of Emergency that waives all constitutional rights. Military can't get any more stringent than that.
