Constitutional Court gives green light to MP calculation method

The Constitutional Court on Wednesday ruled that the contentious stipulation in the MP election law for calculating the number of party-list MPs did not violate the Constitution.

Though the stipulation may contain additional clauses that differ from Constitutional law, the clauses were only meant to offer details that made it possible to fill all 150 party-list seats, the Court explained.

The stipulation was thus in line with the supreme law, the Court ruled.

The case had been brought to the Court by the Ombudsman, who was petitioned by Pheu Thai Party politician Ruangkrai Leekitwattana to review the case after debate arose over apparent discrepancies in the MP seat calculation methods mentioned in the MP law and in the Constitution.

I wonder what the delay is with releasing the names? Maybe they keep crunching the numbers but getting the wrong result? ????

I would say it more like the minor parties are holding out for a larger share of the pie and bigger influence. The numbers have been crunched and all the parties know their value to both PTP and PPRP under either scenario. They are the ones that wield the real power now. So the big question is who will give them the most?

Gobsmacked. I tell you Gobsmacked. I am I thought they would have told the EC and the Junta to go forth and procreate.

Shocked.

And what else is new!

Prayuths pasties

Don't ever use those 2 words in the same sentence, ever... You'll never be allowed in Cornwall again ????????

So the oh so objective court ruled that a highly questionable calculation method that is in conflict with the much praised constitution, is indeed acceptable.  What a surprise!! The good people can stay in power now. Yay!!!

RIP Thailand.

When you control everything, anything is possible.  Are you surprised?

Can  only hope for the  Ceausescu outcome.

Sovereignty of the nation thus belongs to the Constitutional Court selected by juntas and not to the Thai people.

RIP democracy. 'Best to never have known you to understand who you were.'

Democracy will never survive if this constitution and the 20 years strategy stranglehold are not changed and most importantly if the military is not subservient to elected government. Democracy is official in its death knell after this.

It can't be in it's death knell if it never existed.  The illusion of democracy was allowed/tolerated as long as it stayed within allowed boundaries.  When it didn't it was reset.

...and right they are...

Because nothing the EC, the NCPO, or the NLA does can in fact violate the Constitution. Because they wrote the Constitution. Duh!
