Political parties yet to make clear their plans to set up govt

BANGKOK, 17 May 2019 (NNT) - Nothing is obvious so far, concerning the setting up of a coalition government. Nor has the process for the naming of a prime minister begun. Neither the Bhumjaithai Party nor the Democrat Party, viewed as pivotal factors, has as yet declared a clear position.

Democrat Party leader Jurin Laksanawisit commented today that his party is waiting for a meeting of its executive board which will follow verification by the Election Commission and said that its stand on the setting up of a coalition would be known early next week.

Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul denied today that he had been approached to join a coalition with any other party, and his party’s four points of principle will be repeated in the first seminar of its 51 MPs and executive board members on May 19 and May 20 in Buriram province. He said his party will listen to the opinions of those who have voted for it.

The Bhumjaithai leader dismissed rumors that a third alliance of parties has been set up in an effort to form a coalition government and admitted that he has been pressed to make a clear stand.

Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, head of the Pheu Thai Party’s campaign strategy team, dismissed news reports that her party had offered the prime ministerial post to the Bhumjaithai or Democrat party in exchange for them joining a coalition with her party. Meanwhile, the Pheu Thai Party has already chosen a party member to stand for the position of House Speaker.

Palang Pracharath Secretary General, Sontirat Sontijirawong denied today that a coalition government had already been set up with seven cabinet seats each, allocated to the Bhumjaithai and Democrat parties. He said his party is waiting for answers from those parties.

Meanwhile, Future Forward Party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit has offered himself as premier and launched an effort to form a coalition of parties to form a government that would include some opposing parties that he has invited to join hands and work together, so that a truly democratic government would be installed.

Only the Future Forward Party he said, can heal the political conflict and bring in politicians from various camps to work together towards common objectives, which include a call for an end to the rule of the National Council for Peace and Order, the military to return to their barracks and an amendment to the constitution leading to a new election.

However, the Election Commission yesterday petitioned the Constitutional Court to make a ruling on Mr. Thanathorn’s MP status in the face of allegations that he had held shares in a media firm, following documented complaints filed to the EC before it verified the MPs.

It’s rather mind-boggling that the some of the political parties have difficulties in their decision making. What’s so hard to decide whether you stand with the people for democracy or cradled up with the ursupers of democracy and have dictatorial rule for next 4 years. Dem and BJT should be ashamed of themselves taking part in the election and then offered themselves to the highest bidder. That’s a word for this kind of behavior; too foul to mention

An answer is a response to a question is it not? But Anutin said:

Make up your mind guys! Either support the incumbent military rule (to be faked as an elected gov't) or oppose the military rule, supporting true democracy and new genuinely elected gov't. Instead of infighting, all against the military rule should unite, and swiftly end Uncles rule and fascist Art44.
