Growing Fig Trees In Northern Thailand

Featured Replies

Has anyone had any experience growing fig trees in northern Thailand (Chiang Mai, Maehongson areas)?

I had great success growing them in a warm-temperate climate. However, I am most concerned with how the tress will fare during the rainy season.  I would think that there would be the danger of rot and yellowing leaves. I have seen figs for sale here, albeit a variety with which I'm not familiar. The inner fruits are more of a golden yellow color vs. the the purple I'm used to in the dark skin varieties, or rosy color of green skinned varieties.

quite a few varieties are grown here. search figs chiang mai there are a few threads on it with a lot of information.

Someone is growing dates in CM Province, if you are interested in 'exotic' fruits.  I tried a fresh cluster cut from a big, and very heavy pedicel (?) last year bought at TOPS.  Very interesting fruit, taking a long time to ripen in my room.  Each day i tried one and the texture and taste changed daily.

That's good to know. Has anyone seen the locally grown fruit for sale around here?
