A former member of the junta-appointed National Legislative Assembly (NLA), Pornpetch Vichitcholchai, was on Friday affirmed as speaker of the new junta-appointed Senate.

The deputy speaker positions went to former NLA member General Singhsuek Singhprai and former Election Commission president Supachai Somcharoen.

They were the sole candidates for the posts, guaranteeing their success without any voting.

They must have faith in the leadership, whoever that may be! ????

But there was no allegiance to the Junta or anything predetermined.

Well, this is a clear signal that the Senate will be just as much of a rubber stamp outfit as we feared it would be.

Roll up, roll up.

Of course not as that would be unconstitutional!

  • Section 113 - A Senator shall not align with or yield to the mandate of any political party.
  • Section 114 - Members of the House of Representatives are representatives of the Thai people and free from any mandate, commitment or control. They shall perform duties honestly for the common interest of the Nation and the happiness of Thai people as a whole, without conflict of interest.
  • Section 115 (in part) - A member of the House of Representatives and a Senator will uphold and observe the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand in every respect.

How could a Senate selected entirely by the NCPO that includes members of the NCPO and active military officers not comply with the 2017 Constitution?

Wow, wonder what was told to the opposition to keep them quiet?

All  lined  up like new kindergarten  kids with  their  shiny fake medals and  crimplene suits ready to say "yes".

Thailand must feel so proud and woe  betide anyone who dares say differently.
