YALA, 31 May 2019 (NNT) - Government agencies and educational units in Yala province have organized a campaign on World No-smoking Day. The provincial public health office reported that smoking cigarettes in Yala has been inclined to drop due to the continual campaign against it.

The activity on World No-smoking Day and White School campaign was organized by teachers and schoolchildren at Yala kindergarten. The participants wore white shirts and burned mock cigarettes. Over 1,800 schoolchildren, teachers and school personnel joined in an aerobic dance. An exhibition on cigarette smoking was held by students. The teachers and students joined in a campaign walk.

Deputy provincial public health chief Dr. Chaiwat Pattanaphisalsak said Yala people have reduced cigarette smoking since the last five years due to the continual campaign for the smokers to realize the dangers of smoking to their health. The number of people, particularly those aged over 15 years, who have joined in the campaign has increased. If legal measures were enforced alongside such campaign against smoking, more local villagers would quit smoking in the future.

If only they would put as much effort into educating Thais about the dangers of passing on curves, making U-turns, and riding motorbikes anywhere.
