Visa rules

Featured Replies

Hi all, I know this subject has been discussed many times but I can't find a recent  discussion about it.  I'm 15days into my 28day visa  and and am needing to stay a bit longer than  normal (I work month on month off)  I'm told that to extend the viza I need to apply 15days before viza expires  is this true or can I apply  later than that  . Hoping I don't have to go out and back. Thanks for any advice in advance  .hoping ubonjoe  spots this one  ????

It is not completely clear what you have, but I am going to assume you have a 30-day (29-night) visa exempt tourist entry.

You can extend this at you local immigration office for a further 30 days on payment of 1,900 baht. The extension can be applied for at any time during the last seven days of your current permission to stay, longer at some offices.

Apply during the last week of stay.

Assuming you actually do have a 30 day entry.

Yes I have 28day stay  and to me would seem very simple  thing is I have been to immigration regards this some three yrs ago they told me then that I needed to apply 15days ahead of expiry  in order to extend viza.  Different offices as we all know say different things  . Thanks for advise will go to immigration Tuesday  let all know the outcome, been here long time still can't keep up with the fact they can have different opinions on the rules in the immigration    thanks for your  comments

I think you will find that it is during the final week everywhere when extending a 30 day Visa Exempt Entry.

If immigration were telling you that you must apply 15 days in advance then you must have been asking for a conversion to a non immigrant entry followed by a one-year extension.

For the 30-day extension of a 30-day visa exempt entry (perhaps you could post a scan of your entry stamp to confirm that is what you have, and not some entry from an unusual visa) you can apply right up to the last day of your original 30-day stay.

You have a 30 day stay. The day you arrive is day 1 and the day you leave day 30.

You don’t need to apply for the extension 15 days before, you can apply on or before day 30.

Regardless of how early you apply, day 1 of the extension will be day 31.
