National Health Security Office (NHSO) branches were deluged with nearly 450,000 health-related issues in the first half of its current fiscal year, its secretary general has said.

Dr Sakchai Kanjanawattana said most requests for help submitted – 96 per cent – sought further information regarding health security.

The rest involved assistance in transfers of patient in critical condition and in emergency cases.

There were also complaints about substandard services.

Sakchai said the NHSO service units were able to resolve the issues within 25 days on average.

He attributed the increase in calls for help to people having improved access to service units and to public awareness of their right to health security.

The NHSO received 930,302 requests last year and 764,887 in 2017.

A substantial database detailing the state of public health has been established as a result, Sakchai said, and it would help authorities improve health security for citizens holding gold cards.

The office can be contacted at 1330.
