If you have lived here for a long time are you grand fathered in i.e. not required to keep 400k in the bank all year round?

There is no grandfathering for having 400k baht in the bank after 3 months at 800k baht.

The only grandfathering done was back in 1998 when they raised the requirements for retirement.

Ubonjoe, your wise reply was coincidental with another thread on a separate issue so do you know if that grandfathering is still in place following the latest police orders ?

Yes it is if you were already on a extension of stay based upon retirement and stayed on one since then. Also you had to be between 55 and 60 years old or over to qualify.
