Still no briefing for U.S. Senate intel panel on Mueller report - sources

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The only committee of the U.S. Congress running a genuinely bipartisan probe of Russian meddling in U.S. politics has still had no word from the Trump administration on briefing the panel about the Mueller report's counterintelligence findings, congressional sources said on Wednesday.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election produced counterintelligence reports, which were sent to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice.

Since the mid-April release of the redacted report, the Senate Intelligence Committee has been stonewalled in much the same way the administration has refused to cooperate with other committees, two congressional sources said.

The Senate Intelligence Committee, led by Republican Richard Burr and Democrat Mark Warner, had hoped that the Justice Department would provide it with private briefings on those materials.

The committee is "not satisfied" with the Justice Department's stonewalling and "will press ahead with its effort to obtain" the Mueller material, one of the two sources said.

A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment.

On Tuesday, House of Representatives Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff said his panel plans hearings on the Mueller report, including counterintelligence (CI) issues.

As an example of the questions that his panel has about the report, Schiff said: "What does it mean when Mueller in his report says that there were CI agents embedded in his team sending reports back to headquarters?"

The Russia scam is a giant nothing burger.

Time to Move On.

For heaven's sake get off this and on to something of substance, like putting together some policies for the election next year.

So stonewalling works with you.

Congress: What's in your burger?

Trump: Nothing!

Congress: Oh, okay.  In that case can we see it?

Trump: NEVER!

Done.  Most of the candidates already have policy statements.  Next?

Do you have any evidence that the POTUS is corrupt? If so, are you sharing this with appropriate US authorities?

Did you also condemn the very suspicious airport runway meeting between the then AG and Bill Clinton just prior to the FBI saying his wife had been naughty but they didn't recommend (highly unusual for them to do the prosecutors job in deciding) any charges?

Congress is already aware.

I don't condemn activity that is merely "suspicious" because I'm not an unhinged conspiracy nut.  I have no objection to suspicious activity being reported on by the media and fully investigated by relevant authorities to find criminal wrongdoing or corruption (see statement above re: Congress).

Except he isn't. In point of fact, Barr has offered access to the entire unredacted report to the Judiciary Committee. Only two of the 12 Congress members (6 Republicans and 6 Democrats) offered access even bothered reading it- both Republicans. Both these Republicans reported that there was nothing of significance or interest in any of the redactions.  https://www.politico.com/story/2019/04/30/mueller-report-redacted-1295105

The full report has been issued to the public. The Democrats on the Committee have access to even small portion of the report that was redacted due to Justice Department Policies. If the Democrats honestly believed there was something in those redacted portions that could paint Trump badly in any way you don't think they'd told at least one of those six Democratic Congressmen to go in and read it? If Barr had nefariously redacted some bombshell information you don't think Mueller or any of the 13 Angry Democrats on his team would have gone to the press about it? Get real.

13 Angry Democrats

There has been no proof offered that any people on the investigation team were unduly influenced by their prior political leanings who were in any case appointed by republicans. . The term you echo from trump is a part of trump's attempts to allege conspiracy to undermine the investigation and overall his activity to destroy trust in government institutions. Let's not forget trump is a disciple of the far right populist Bannon.

This statement is patently false, and borders on delusional.

Do you perchance live in an alternate reality?

"Small" being the operative word.

"All" would be better but then that would lead to trump's resignation.

Yeah, Barr is nefariously redacting bombshell information that would lead to Trump's resignation, and his Mueller and his team are just going along with it. Do you realize how stupid that sounds?

Nobody is saying their political affiliations influenced the report. The allegation being made by some in this thread is that the redactions in the report (which are mandated by Justice Department policy to protect third parties and ongoing investigations) somehow conceal information that implicates Trump (despite the conclusion of the report making clear there was no collusion). Yet for that to be true, 13 people with a strong bias towards the Democratic Party and strong personal distaste for Trump would need to be in on the conspiracy. Barr is making unethical and illegal redactions simply to protect Trump, and yet none of these Democratic Prosecutors are raising any objection or even simply tipping the media off to what he has done. Mueller and all 13 Angry Democrats are just going along with it.

Do you see where we are going here? Do you understand now why the theory makes no sense?

Far from there being some hidden information in the report damaging to Trump, it would appear that Mueller is now on the defensive for omitting information in an attempt to show Russian meddling where there was none:  https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/447394-key-figure-that-mueller-report-linked-to-russia-was-a-state-department

Agreed. Good observation. Finally.

Based on Muller's written response and press conference, he doesn't appear to be going along with anything.

The full unredacted report along with all supporting intel and grand jury info can be relayed to relevant Congressional committees (oversight, judiciary, ways and means, etc.) There is absolutely no reason to hide this info., I mean unless it makes trump look guilt-ier?

Seriously, maybe cut down on the Kool Aid.
