An engineering student shot himself to death in his house in Bangkok’s Bueng Koom district early on Thursday, police said.

Beung Koom police were alerted to the incident, at a house on Soi Seri Thai 41 in Klong Koom sub-district, at 12.30am.

The student, Ae (not his real name), 24, was found dead in his bedroom with a gunshot wound to his right temple. A .38 revolver was found in his right hand.

Police said Ae was studying agricultural engineering at a leading university. He normally stayed at a boarding house but was visiting his parents.

Ae might have been depressed after he failed to graduate following six years of study, his family said.

Poor Fella...

He must of been suffering big time during his 6 years of studies due to the pressures in Thai culture to succeed academically through his studies, whilst thinking that he let himself down, his parents, and the rest of the family after 6 long years of study ????, believing most probably that he had lost face...  It seems that the failure of his studies and going back the next year to do retakes was not an option ????

RIP

The pressure of Thai culture to succeed academically thru studies?

i have observed that the paper degree is what they want, not to truly succeed and learn academically for the sake of learning....most Thai students don’t enjoy the academic side of school....just the social side of it

It´s the second student that take their own life in only one day. Does the education system really suck that bad?
Look around, it aint that good.....

firstly student suicide is not a topic for frivolous humour, and it is not a 'thai' thing. it is increasingly common the world over. there are increasing pressures being put on the younger generation through their studies and also social media & life in the digital age.

in the last two years there have been 11 suicides or unexplained deaths of students at bristol university alone. universities have a duty of care need to look at the support and counselling they have in place for their students who are struggling or are having issues, including mental health problems.

please post responsibly.

...yet one  can have a decent life without being an agricultural engineer
