Is it a disgrace to the sport of rugby league that a manager feels obliged to set a precedent and sack himself for a careless remark that revealed a personal prejudice?

Is rugby league an inclusive sport, or only for the politically correct and the tight-lipped and circumspect?

I am sure Mr Argyle will get by without his job as CEO at Toronto, but there are plenty of rugby league players who would be less sanguine about losing their employment in the game for their unpopular and offensive opinions.

I don’t doubt that the RFL will apply sanctions for his ride and offensive behaviour, but is it right that he, a man in the enviable privilege of being a dabbler in rugby league, rather than a full time professional trying to earn a livelihood and support a family from the game, should go on record as “sacking” himself instead of resigning; and so explicitly stating a precedent that players would be sacked and their families punished for such an offensive comment?
