For what?

for non o extension based on marriage, we have 1 kid.

It is a standard requirement, as part of the marriage extension process at most immigration offices, for there to be a witness in attendance - complete with ID card blue tabien bahn - so as primarily to vouch for the authenticity of the marriage. Doesn't your wife have a pal who could perform the necessary in your case?

does the witness need to be from the same village?

Everything in regard to witnesses depends on where you're doing the extension. Every office has its own rules. Some will waive the requirement of a witness if you have a child together and you're registered as the father, others want a witness to come with you to the office anyway, and still others want a witness to attend when they make a visit to your house. The best thing is to ask your immigration office exactly what they want.

I don't recall Hua HIn want witnesses when you do the application for an extension based upon marriage.

Best to check with them to find out what is required.

They do. Had to bring one together with her tabian baan and ID card to the immigration office. Not sure what the deal is if you've got a child together, however.

Don't forget to bring double copies of everything, including the photos. Take and print many variations of the photos (so they can pick the ones the like) and make sure you are standing close together in them, no gap between you.

Be prepared to not get it done the first time – we had to go three times because we got different information each time.
