EC petitioned to probe alleged media share holdings of 16 MPs

BANGKOK, 14 June 2019(NNT) - Srisuwan Janya, secretary general of the Association for the Protection of the Thai Constitution, today lodged a petition with the Election Commission to investigate allegations that 16 MPs of the Palang Pracharath Party and Chart Pattana Party hold shares in media firms.

He will also ask the National Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the Senate Selection Committee for alleged unethical conduct and hidden interests.

Mr. Srisuwan called on the Election Commission to look into the allegations involving 15 Palang Pracharath MPs and one Chart Pattana MP which might possibly lead to the retroactive disqualification of their MP status. The accused lawmakers include Pareena Kraikupt of the Palang Pracharath Party for Ratchaburi; Kulvadee Nopamornbodhi of the Palang Pracharath Party for Ratchaburi; Natthaphol Thipasuwan of the Palang Pracharath Party and Thevan Liptapanlop, leader of the Chart Pattana Party. If found guilty by law of holding shares in media firms as accused, these lawmakers would have been disqualified to stand for election as MPs and thus could lose their MP status. The Election Commission would forward the cases to the Constitutional Court for final judgment.

Meanwhile, Mr. Srisuwan lodged the petition with the National Anti-Corruption Commission, asking it to investigate the allegations that the Senate Selection Committee had seriously committed unethical conduct and had acted to conceal hidden interests. In particular, five members of the Senate Selection Committee who concurrently hold cabinet seats and act as members of the National Council for Peace and Order were selected as senators.

Besides, the secretary of the cabinet might be faced with duty-negligence charges for failing to publicize the names of the members of the Senate Selection Committee in the Royal Gazette.

Ultimately, all this is vain and will be proven to be so.

No significant dent (no matter how much merited) will be allowed to be inflicted upon the junta - sorry, 'government'. They did not plan and plot for five years to see their grip on the country loosened and released.

No way!

Ludicrous explanations (excuses) will eventually be produced for the majority of seeming wrong-doing or illegitimacy.

We can depend on it!

I bet they will come up with pre dated share sales or "fake" docs showing the share belong to a family member

I really don’t like this guy, but if he can make the mm fall more power to him.

______________

And that's what worries me about FF and especially Khun Thanathorn, they will invent whatever and regardless of the truth, no matter how obviously false their claims are to keep him and FF out of the picture.

First step will be to continuously delay the court actions in process to sideline him / FF, 1 year delay, 2 years, 5 years ???

Then an obviously fake guilty verdict and OTT jail sentence(s).

If this happens I wonder if it will spring the birth of even more young parties who will genuinely fight for big change. Numbers could eventually override the unethical stuff we are seeing right now.

A long bumpy path ahead unfortunately.

Impeached this bunch of EC officials. Then possibly there is a chance that the EC will do something with new non partisan officials. Or else this is an exercise in futility.

There is even another thing you forgot to mention :

Prayut got a lot of time to form a new Govt. He is in no hurry, because as long as it is not clear who is clean, he will have the constitutional right to rule with section 44. This makes it easier for him to decide. It's simply said any dictator's best way.

Now long did it take the NACC to finalize the "watchman" case?

Why, with these guys, does allegedly holding media shares lead to losing MP status only, but with Thanathorn it could lead to party dissolution ????

This has to be one of the most failed non-government organizations in Thailand.

The NACC would have to accept a petition from the public to impeach and file a charge with the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court accepts it, the EC members will be suspended pending the Courts decision.

Exercise in futility indeed.

But it would be even slightly detrimental to the EC's reputation for the SC to accept the referral no matter the decision, if any. An official SC review would likely continue to add chaos to the developing Prayut government with perhaps some political 'blowback.'

Is their leader the same man who is searching the world for any small morsel he can try to play up against Khun Thanathorn and the FF members?

Anybody with half a brain must now realize that when referring to Thailands political future it is clearly going to be a case of

    ' No pain , no gain '

The Junta pitbull has power by the throat and will never release its grip except by a violent beating.

The probability of this occurring is anybodies guess but does not seem too likely given the general fatalism of most of the rural population.

The other problem regarding political change is that the current incumbents do have significant support from a large slice of the population as proven by the mass defection of voters from the Democrat party.

However this support is not significant enough to be fairly put to the test in free and fair elections , as has been oft demonstrated in the past. Given this situation the junta can only retain power by cheating, bullying and intimidating anyone who gets in the way.

The only other hope for change is a catastrophic meltdown of the Thai economy that would hit the juntas support base harder than that of the oppositions. Another financial crisis like that of 1997 could act as the catalyst for change.

Here's hoping.
