Interactive Brokers - Anyone funded from Thai bank account recently?

Featured Replies

Wife (Thai national) opened IB account but sending wire transfer from Thai bank seems problematic. Just curious if anyone has successfully done this recently from a Thai domestic bank?

Kasikorn refused to send the wire after initially saying it was OK, indicating head office stepping in on the process.

I've read the other IB threads here but no solid leads. Also read up on Bank of Thailand exchange controls and can't find anything which seems to prohibit it..

I guess you have read this thread but if not here it is. I would suggest calling IB. It can take time to get through including selecting the right no, but staff are knowledgeable and helpful.

Have seen no problems recently for non-Thai citizens sending funds to Interactive Brokers accounts from major Thailand-based banks.  Can Kasikorn give you more detail as to what happened?  Am guessing that it could it be the Bank of Thailand may be tightening up on Thai citizens sending funds overseas for investment purposes.

That appears to be the issue .. different rules for rich vs poor, though. She spoke with Bank of Thailand who said min for OS investment is THB 50 million. So it's a 'no-go'.

This is correct, as of early last year. You could consider funding from an account in a different name if convenient to both of you and permitted by IB.

Unfortunately IB doesn't permit funding from accounts in a different name.
