BANGKOK, 28 June 2019(NNT) - The House of Representatives has spent two days debating a report on national reform plans. National Economic & Social Development Council Secretary General, Thossaphorn Sirisamphan confirmed during the House meeting that all remarks and suggestions raised by MPs will be compiled and submitted to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha to consider when making the plans more efficient.

The House meeting on the national reform plans, was held in accordance with the constitution’s Article 270. Most MPs agreed that Thailand needed certain reforms and raised concerns over the 20-year national strategy plans which were considered too long and might become outdated in the future. Some MPs suggested that the reform plans start with efforts to reduce social inequality and called on the government to attend House meetings so that they could adapt the MPs’ viewpoints to the implementation of reform plans.

The NESDC secretary general admitted that the reform plans would be a difficult task. He said the reform plans should be categorized as 40 Quick Win topics which could be implemented first, and other topics for which laws and regulations would be amended in a time-consuming process. He pledged to bring all the MPs’ viewpoints to the premier’s attention to improve the reform plans before they are returned to parliament.

The House of Representatives considered more than 10 urgent motions proposed by MPs of different parties, mostly calling for the House’s consideration of low-priced farm goods.
