Boy, 5, Killed But Mother Survives Knife Attack

Recommended Posts

Hecky,

According to Thairath, the attacker spoke Southern Thai. Apparently she couldn't she his face since she was attacked from behind.....?

dqoz,

definately keep that day job at hand.

Yes I agree this thread should be on the main news page. Is it possible for a mod to move it?

Apparently, the father is not Australian but Austrian.

News.com.au:

AUSTRALIAN officials say a young boy brutally murdered in Thailand was Thai-Austrian, not Thai-Australian as media reports said.

Australian diplomatic officials alerted to the case said their investigations had shown the boy was not a dual Thai-Australian citizen.

The boy was murdered, and his mother severely injured in an attack on the Thai holiday island of Koh Samui.

Police said the boy and his Thai mother were sitting at the rear of a house when they were attacked on Tuesday.

The boy's throat was slashed during the attack, and he was also stabbed several times. The woman also suffered wounds to her throat.

The mother is recovering in a Koh Samui hospital and has been able to give a description of her son's killer

.

... i think all people around the world this is unforgiveable and the thai police should pull out all the stops and catch this animal at all stops and if i hear hes been unfairly treated in custody i will feel slightly better .. to the father my thoughts are with you ........

Why associate animals with this horrible attrocity? This is what PEOPLE do to people. Animals aren't nearly as vicious.

Let's see if the international press does anything with this. It seems that a loss of face is the only way to shame some Thais into action...

Is it proper for embassies to get involved in things like this in the hopes of pressing the issue with the police to solve this outrageous crime?

Hecky,

Please read my post carefully. Thairath is a Thai paper, which I refer to in my post. I'm more than happy to post a link to the article, in case you're able to read Thai. My comment on being attacked from behind is pure specualtion on my behalf.

komchadluek, also a Thai language newspaper, has an article in their online newspaper today stating that the victim has been unable to identify her attacker and that she had 300,000 baht worth of items stolen during the attack. (diamond ring, diamond necklace, video camera, mobile phone)

So basically the police do not have a clue and all this ex-boyfriend theory was totally fabricated to try and make it look like a one off.

In short what they should be saying is there is a brutal murderer out there we have no clue who it is and people should be on their guard making sure they lock their windows and doors particularly at night!

Apparently, nothing was stolen from the house, but these items were on her person, at least, according to the report that Komchadluek made about her account to the police.

I am not casting doubt on your information but rather thanking you for some accurate reporting which as you say is sometimes lacking. People are sometimes to quick to stereo type and jump to conclusions.

I suppose I'm not the only one who's puzzled as of WHY the attacker killed (in such a brutal way) a 5 year old child.....unable to defend himself (or harm the attacker/murderer) :D:o

This very sad story was in the Nation today. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2007/03/14...al_30029226.php

Heard about it last night already but didn't want to post any hear say stories. Very sad.

Crimes like this are usually crimes of passion, i.e. the killer knew and really hated the mother for some reason. I have no facts to go on at all, but my hunch is that the murderer, if caught, will turn out to be an ex-boyfriend or similar.

You can or can not be right, I prefer the real facts in these cases, since all can speculate.

Just so the perp gets behind bars, is the most important. He/they will probably not want to be taken alive, since the cowardnise (sic) of the crime will give them the ultimate sentence!

Whatever the sinister background of this horrible murder of a 5 year old child and attempt to do the same on his mother................., what strikes me most is the 'neglect' on this news...here on TV and in the local and nationwide Thai & English newspapers.

The murder of a small Thai/Farang 5-year old child is less 'news' than the murder on a 100% farang, whether child or adult.

Can anyone imagine the impact of an execution style murder -slit throat- like this on a farang child in Thailand....? :o

Sad and tragic story and sad 'us', but, life goes on, doesn't it? :D

Note: anyone remember the tragic rape&murder on Katherine Horton? WHY was that more important news and sensational than the life of this child ?

Oh, I forgot, KH was white and British..... :D

sorry for being so cinycal but this murder makes me sick!

My original post was quoted from the Nation, however, if you look at my post # 20, directed at your post #16, I start with mentioning Thairath. In post # 20 I was not referring to the Nation.

Now, can we get back on track?

well I've said it before and i'll say it again.

This is in direct relationship to the overdevelopment problem. Whereever ther is mass tourism particulalrly in

an unregulated way such as Samui and many other placed in Thailand then crime will follow. Mass tourism

and crime go hand in hand partiucaulrly in developing countires.

There need to be international controls on tourism

whilst there is no excsue for this, it must be quite bad if you are a poor thai guy on samui.

you see all these rich foreigners moving in , buying up your land, building luxury homes there whilst you still live in a shack and then to add insult they take your women as well.

I'd be pretty ###### jelous as well.

so how long before samui resembles Pattaya both in development, pollution and crime?

not long id say

I think it is all rather sad that you stoop to this level to use this dreadful incident as an opportunity to score points against Samui.

Unfortunately in todays world whether you live in a developed or developing country sickening crimes like this are common place. I regularly read sickening UK media reports that are beyond belief and there are no links with tourism just sick people.

Yabs,

Where do you come from? Oh, I forgot, you're an expert on Samui.

Can you tell me how many local Samuians live in shacks? If the locals had their land bought up, don't you think they'd have money in the bank? If they blow it on something else and are pennyless afterwards, that's tough, but doesn't justify your post!

The majority of people living in shacks on Samui are not local.

Marrying a local Samui woman is an insult, to whom???? What are you suggesting?

What are you talking about?

None of which has anything to do with the murder of this boy.

This kind of murder can take place anywhere in the world and has nothing to do with tourism and most likely everything to do with greed, considering the amount of valuables the woman has reported missing.

As an added note, my husband checks the Thai newspapers online every day and so far, there has been no further follow up to the last report.

I was referring to the locals who maybe didn't own land.

I'm not trying to justify anything i'm just looking at the route cause.

I'm sure if you do some reseacrh then areas with mass tourism and especially ones with a sex trade

will have a higher crime rate.

You know nothing. How many children have been shot or stabbed in the UK over the last couple of months, nothing to do with tourism or the sex trade. If you want to banter on about Samui Phuket etc at least have the respect to do it in the right thread and if anyone who is not yet bored with you can respond.

I belive this thread was set up so informed good people could express their outrage at such a shocking crime and also offer their condolences to the family.

i'm very shocked and saddened about this incident. my heart goes out to the injured mother and the family behind.

as i live in near vicinity to where it happened, i would really be interested in a follow-up on police investigations. latest gossip in the neighbourhood is still the same version from the beginning that the thai-ex did the crime as he was no more receiving money from the woman. i said gossip, so don't know how much is true.

horror to think there are such mad perverts out there who kill even infants for robbery. even in this more quiet part of samui robbery and crime increase as building increases... i know it happens anywhere in the world but is still so bitter :o
