I am in a crazy situation.I am in a hotel in Chiang Mai on my way to India.

IAM trying to apply for an Indian Visa online.

I have filled out the form and now need to upload a photo and a copy of

my passport.

I have  a photo on a USB but neither my tablet or the computer shop

Will read it.

In the village where I live there is a young computer savvy guy that does

passport photos, menues and posters and doesnt mind figuring things out on

the computer.

I need a shop like this.Where I can walk in and say I need you to open my.

online application form, upload this photo, upload a scan of a page in my passport

and if there are some simple issues like the USB stick not being in the right format

That they would be computer savyness to be able to deal with it.

I spent half of yesterday looking for one.lm stuck in Chiang Mai until I find one..

Help,

Why not get a photo made and scanned?  Would not cost that much.  USB sticks are very often infected if used for printing photos so perhaps that happened if you were using for photos in general.  Just get a photo and computer shop can scan and send.

What I need is the name and address of a shop that can do this.

I have been to a photo shop,an internet cafe and a shop the does scanning.

Each had some kind of problem and fobed me off to another shop.

I really need a shop that doesn,t mind figuring out the problem instead of just send me

down the road.

If the USB worked before but not now suspect it has been infected and they do not want to touch it.  You always need photos so the cost of getting made (probably the same computer shop could do) should not be much of an issue.  I would toss or format that USB before trying to use again. however.

Scanner will normally read as JPG so should not be a problem using computer shop scanner - even if they have to select JPG as scan mode.

I do not live in Chiang Mai but am sure any lodging provider or driver can advise.  Most shops that provide computer access (games and such) should be able to do.

Top uri was right.I formated the USB and went back to the photo shop and had her

Copy the photo onto it again.

This time the machine in the internet cafe accepted it.

I will now go back to the shop that scanned the passport page and repeat the whole

process.

If not I will try the shops you recommended.

Thanks for all the speedy help guys,

So I went back to the scanner shop.Had them scan thepage of my passport,

put it on the good USB,went back to the internet shop, tried to upload but the website rejected it

beause the file size was to big.

The limit is 300kb and my file was 300kb.

When they scanned the passport they scanned both the photo page and the page opposite it.

What do I tell them to do now.

If I get them to only scan one page, the photo page, will that make the file size smaller.

Will that work.

I don't know how to use those programs and it would take me hours to figure it out.

Is there a way I can tell the scanner shop to make the image size smaller.

Will having them only scan the one picture page make it have less kbs.

I'm weary'..........

Scanner software will have options - just scan at lower DPI setting or grayscale - you do not need high quality color.  I have to scan checks at 200 DPI for banking and simple custom setting on Canon Printer/scanner software to do this.

There are many computer repair shops in Computer IT City on the northwest side of the moat.

If one shop can't fix it , then go to next shop inside the plaza. I used to walk from one shop to the next until I find someone who can repair my problem.

They should be able to upload for you.

The guy with the copy/print stall in Kad Suan Kaew  has been moved. He used to be near Tops.

Now, if you start at the entrance to Tops, go to the back of the area with the food stalls (which used to be Food Factory) up the ramp to the left and carry on past an Indian restaurant called Curry Pot and keep going until you come to him. He is basically in the middle of the floor. He will, most likely, be able to help with this.

I will not take you "hours" to use Paint! 8 y/o children can use Paint. You are only reducing the size.

Buddy's shop, across the big street from Kad Suan Kaew, has lots of computers and often seem knowledgable.  And inside KSK, in the basement, not too far from TOPS, is a printer/copy guy who does good work.

This guy in ksk basement is very good and always does my credit card sized laminated  passport copy with visa on reverse. 40 baht from memory and fast.
