20,000 amphetamine pills seized in Chiang Mai

Troops of the Pha Muang task force together with police officers seized 20,000 amphetamine pills in Chiang Mai province.

Lt. Gen. Nirand Thippayakanchanakul (นิรันดร์ ทิพย์กาญจนกุล), the head of the Pha Muang task force, says checkpoint officers in Chai Prakan district arrested Mr. Somkiart Chaiyawong, a 45-year-old Chiang Mai resident, on the night of March 12th after 20,000 amphetamine pills were found in his van.

Mr. Somkiart later confessed that he bought the narcotics from the Thai-Burmese border area.

Police say one of Mr. Somkiart’s friends was also involved in this illegal activity and they are tracking down the culprit.

Are you for real?

Unknown chemicals produced by some unknown "chemist" who's only care is how much money his product will sell for, not being a major problem!

It's not like were talking about pure MDMA being produced in a controlled enviroment - is that ever the case anyway? In a large amount of cases these drugs are bought, crushed, mixed with the same amount of the closest chemical that comes to hand and put back into a pill press to double the value before being passed on down the line.

Having personally seen a friends mental being (and life)ruined by excessive xtc abuse (due to totally anihilating his natural seritonin levels) - while another who was doing the exact same is perfectly ok, I don't believe that taking some unknown chemical, bought off some total stranger in some club should be held in a positive light. Different chemicals affect different people in different ways - what's good for a lot of people can totaly ###### up others.

It probably took 1-2 years after my friend pretty much stopped taking class A's - mostly E's - for the downside to REALLY kick in - massive depression, massive anxiety and general withdrawel from society. 5 years later and he still hasn't recovered much - due to having nearly no natural serotnin and not wanting to take any medication. Him 10 years ago and him now would be like Jim Carrey becoming like um, Simon Cowel (I can't think of anyone boring)

Just because it's hard to beat an 'E' buzz and you haven't witnessed the bad side to the drug with your own eye's doesn't mean it's not there. Reporting how many paragraphs on the bad side of alcohol and giving one to the bad side of E's - "If you take ecstasy on Saturday night, Wednesday is usually the bleakest day before moods stabilise again." for an entire article based on comparing the two is well, poor reporting - probably the first time I've thought that about any CL articles you've done though.
