WARNER BROS.

Amazon is hard at work bringing its highly-anticipated (and highly expensive) Lord of the Rings TV series together, and the company has just signed up someone to direct the first two episodes.

JA Bayona, who was the man behind last year's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, will helm the episodes that will take us back to Middle-earth, as well as serving as executive producer.

Speaking about the project, he said: "Tolkien created one of the most extraordinary and inspiring stories of all time, and as a lifelong fan it is an honour and a joy to join this amazing team.

"I can’t wait to take audiences around the world back to Middle-earth and have them discover the wonders of the Second Age, with a never-before-seen story."
