Cream rises to the top as Bangkok Scrabble event enters last day

 

The top ten at the Brand's International Scrabble event in Bangkok

 

The cream rose to the top after the third day at the 34th Brand's International Scrabble tournament in Central Westgate, Bangkok.

 

Leading the way throughout has been Jesse Day of the USA but he has been joined at the top of the leader board by the world's greatest player Nigel Richards of New Zealand. 

 

They both have 18 wins and six loses with Jesse marginally ahead on spread (the difference between the total points scored for and against).

 

These two players played in the world championship final in London last year with Nigel winning. 

 

In third is Chiang Mai doctor Jakkrit Klapajone who thought he had beaten Jesse in the last game before the American slotted down a 50 point bonus word in INERTIAE. 

 

Yong Jian Rong of Singapore is in fourth. 

 

Top female is Helen Gipson of Scotland on 16-8 in fifth place. 

 

Thaivisa's "Rooster" columnist is sitting in 34th place after a poor Saturday. The senior prize is the best he can hope for.

 

There are five more games on Sunday before the top two take part in a two or three game final on stage in the shopping center. 

 

Spectators are welcome and the final will take place around 3 pm.
