Hello,

On 30 Sept, 2006, when the new regulations for tourists came into effect (that was the date, wasn't it) I was at the end of a double entry tourist visa. I left the country on 12 Oct and stayed away for about 2 weeks, then came back for a week, then to Penang where I got a single entry tourist visa which I extended for 30 days and again left the country on the 1st of Feb. This time I was away one month.

On return at BKK airport on 1st March I got a 30 day stamp, although the officer did question me and look closely at my passport. I won't say she came me a hard time, but it's the very first time I had been subjected to such scrutiny.

So that means when this 30 day one expires in a couple of weeks and I leave that will be about five months spent here in the last 180 days. What are my chances of getting a single entry tourist visa in Penang?

My passport is getting full and 90% of it is taken up with Thai visas/stamps.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, those visas take up a lot of space, don’t they. Plus the entry and exit stamps of the countries where you go for the visas or your visa-exempt border runs, and the entry and exit stamps of Thailand. I’m afraid this is part of the price one has to pay for being a perennial tourist.

I believe you will have no problem getting a new single-entry tourist visa in Penang. I have seen no reports of a problem with that consulate.

Penang's a pretty safe bet for a tourist visa. And I've just gotten a back to back tourist visa myself since October 1 (the first in Penang). There seem to be no restrictions on atual tourist visas, just visa exemption.

Yeah, not a problem. Just got back with my brand new visa. Penang's a breeze.

Thanks again.

Good to know. Were you asked to show proof on onward ticket at any time? Either in Penang or on arrival in Thailand?

No to both. But I flew there and back with Air Asia from BKK. Had I arrived at Sadao/Padang Besar things may have been different.
