Cops investigating themselves after "police reporters" turn up seeking "donations"

A restaurant owner in Hat Yai telephoned the police after three men dressed as cops arrived at his shop seeking what they called "donations".

The men said they were reporters from "The Police Magazine" and to celebrate the magazine's 17th anniversary the public were being asked to donate 2-3000 baht to a good cause - the police.

The restaurant owner smelt an extortion rat immediately. Pol Capt Phaisan Hanirae arrived to check the credentials of the so called reporters.

They had a fancy police car fixed with a siren, logos and stickers for the magazine. It had Bangkok plates.

Leading the group was "assistant editor" Thanakrit Teuting who denied it was an extortion attempt.

He didn't know why the restaurant owner was getting in such a tizzy over people asking for a donation.

When he suggested it looked like a blackmail attempt a furious argument developed and Capt Phaisan took them all in to the station to resolve it.

But now that the restaurant owner has registered a formal complaint an investigation is underway into the activities of the "police reporters".

In a later report Thai Rath said the investigation was ongoing.

The only thing ongoing is the digging to bury the whole thing.

Impersonating a police officer? Should be easy to sort out.

Sounds as effective as using rabbits to transport lettuce.  Thailand lacks many things.  The one thing it needs are checks and balances over the rich and entitled of the country.

They aren't allowed to rip off tourists now so they are ripping off their own

:cheesy:

The whole country needs to be investigated at the same time ????

Looks like another restaurant is soon to be boarded-up.

They do not need tourist they have been ripping off their own for centuries

This sort of thing has been going on for more than a decade. My ex had the shakedown for "Police Magazine" at least 12 yrs ago. "Please ensure when the squeeze is applied that it is done by official police"

Asking for ID and pointing at your CCTV cameras sends 'em running.

I hope the restaurateur has a licence ?

We get it all the time. Two "police" come into the bar with tickets to a policeman's ball in the next town, ( Not the Monty Python one...)......the Mrs. politely tells them times are hard, we have no spare money. They get pissed off, but leave.
