One Way Ticket

Featured Replies

Just got my single entry here in London.

Last time I travelled to BKK it was 2018 and I bought a one way ticket.

No questions and no problems.

This time things seem to be a little more strict.

I am aware that simply showing a van trip to Laos or neighbouring country is suffice to show onward travel.

My question is whether it is absolutely necessary to show some form of onward travel in today's climate. Rather not unless necessary.

You have a setv. Very unlikely to be required to show onward travel. If for some weird reason you are then just buy cheapest one online on the spot.

Onward travel often required by airline for boarding pass for travel without a visa. Entering los visa exempt.

If you have a valid visa for entry there is no requirement to have a onward ticket.

Only if you have many entries on tourist visas would they possibley ask to see a ticket.

For the avoidance of doubt, no one, no even Ubonjoe, has categorically stated ok. For peace of mind, simply buy a cheap onward ticket from Nok Air/ Air Asia for an onward journey - who knows, you might even want to use it. Back in 2014, I was going to be denied travel with Emirates (Glasgow to Bangkok) on the grounds that I did not have an onward ticket, even though I had my Lao visa and Lao stay permit and I would travel immediately on arrival to Vientiane via Udon Thani - then I had to provide a simple geography lesson. I thought the Thai authorities required proof of onward travel before any airline was able to permit a passenger to travel on an inward flight to Thailand, maybe I've got that one wrong.  Mind you, in almost thirty years of travelling to Thailand I have been never been asked by Thai immigration for proof of onward travel.

The one way ticket requirements are enforced by the airlines. When you check in in London, the airline is supposed to check your ticket vs your visa.  It will probably not be checked in BKK but if it were, the airline would be on the hook to send you back.
