Warning of heavy rain as tropical storm approaches

The Meteorological Department warned Thursday that heavy rains would be unleashed on several provinces in the North, Northeast, the East and the South because of influences from a tropical storm and the seasonal monsoon.

 

In a warning issued at 5am Thursday, the department said tropical storm Wipha was located at Hainan, China at a latitude of 20.0 degrees North and longitude of 111.0 degrees East at 4 am Thursday.

 

The department said the storm was moving west-northwest at a speed of 10 knots with maximum sustained winds about 40 knots.

 

The storm is expected to make landfall over upper Vietnam on Friday and its influence is expected to cause rain or torrential downpours in many parts of Thailand, starting from the Northeast and the North.

 

The department added the southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea the South and the upper Gulf will strengthen from Wednesday to next Tuesday, resulting in heavy rains in the South and the East.

 

The winds in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf will strengthen with waves up to 2-3 metres high and above 3 metres in thundershower areas. All ships should proceed with caution and small boats should stay ashore.

We've had two days of fairly solid rain so it must only be fake news in your area!

I live between Pattaya and Sattahip and last night (Wednesday) we had a storm around 1800hrs which left us without electricity for about 3 hours.

It was early here , yesterday ( Weds. )  we went to Chiang Saen by the Mekong and all fair. Coming back on the Chiang Rai road and the darkest sky across the horizon, when we rached the rain the wipers were on full tilt , cars had pulled over with their lights on and parked up , I knew where I was but even then could barely find my soi.

Yes very strong wind and short period of heay rain here in Na-Jomtien too...power went out only briefly...lights flickered a bit ,clocks reset. Tv and internet not effected.

fast moving rain here in Hua Hin right now. I got my radar scope on.

yes here it is from radar just before it hit. moving west to east.

 

West to East is unusual,
the rain was horizontal,there was lots of "stuff" flying around including some roofs.

Is the drought warning still in force?

Is Hua Hin area far enough south to be affected by the southwest monsoon weather off the Andaman Sea.

Not related to this oncoming storm due to cross Vietnam from the east much further north..

Quite a deluge, but soon turned to heavy then moderate rain. The wind is still quite strong here.

The giant low pressure system is sucking the moisture eastwards.

the latest update shows the system moving northwest now and unfortunately not entering Thailand. 

Hopefully the low pressure will continue to pull moisture over Thailand like it is doing in Hua Hin today.

The 'rain' that has fallen in Nakhon Sawan in the past week wouldn't have filled a thimble .

The only thing I don't like about torrential downpours or thunderstorms are power outages. Or the internet goes down. Some people tell me if it's a thunderstorm I should switch off the internet. Is that true? Even if it's wireless?

Never had the internet go off, I have my router on a UPS.

Electricity goes off every time there's a strong wind, heavy rain, or a bit of thunder.
