90-day report - my bad LOL

Featured Replies

Just a cautionary tale.

I'm here on a retirement visa with the necessary extensions. I last filed a 90-day report in February 2015. In the time since then, I have been in and out of Thailand, on average, every 60 days so the 90-days kept resetting. I last came back into Thailand in April, 2019 and was planning to head to Malaysia to visit friends in June. At the last minute they decided to meet up in Bangkok. I was so used to not having to do the 90-day reports that it never entered my mind. Well, I was reading something in one of the threads today and it was like a light went on. As soon as I checked, I knew I was going to have to pay a visit to immigration in the morning. LOL

So the lesson is, add a note to your calendar every time you arrive back in Thailand even if you are sure you will be out again before the 90-days is up. Better to have the reminder pop up and not need it than to have to hand over the baht.

p.s. As long as I am at immigration, I'll make sure my TM 30 is up to date as well even though my condo files it for me.

If I were you I wouldn't bother, especially if you're leaving the country some time in the next month or two.

You will pay a 2000 baht fine for late 90 day reporting.

Note: I have removed a couple of nonsensical off topic posts.

True, I could just ignore it and try to game the system but I do my best to follow the law even if the law is stupid. In this case, the failure was mine and I'll take responsibility for it.

UPDATE:

Went to CM Immigration today. Was closed. Today is Mother's Day. LOL

But not a total waste. Got my TM 30 checked to make sure I am up to date. I am. ???? And since it was very uncrowded, the very nice woman officer at the desk helped me fill out and file my registration for doing online filing. Did the registration in the app and subsequently received an email to confirm the email address. Now just waiting for the login information. No idea how long but at least the process has started.

Quick question, my 90 day report was due today. Since it's a holiday, if I go tomorrow to report do I still have to pay 2,000 bht?

You are allowed to do the report up to 7 days after the report date including that day in the count.

No fine as long as you do it any day this week.

Perfect thank you. I will sort this out tomorrow. In 20 years I've never been late, but I just made my extension last month, and for some reason it is stamped that I need to report on the 12 of August. I didn't realize today was a holiday, so that was my oversight. Luckily that oversight won't be one that cost me this time.

Appreciate your time in responding, Ubonjoe.

It was closed but you still managed to do stuff?

Even on the days they are closed, they are open for the limited purpose of doing TM 30 filings, nothing else.

the worst that can happen is a 5k baht fine, you've got to judge that against the time it takes you to 90 day report,

of course like thousands of others you have to sign a book admitting to being a felon for failing to report but you could avoid it and pay the once at visa time

Final update and question:

Went to CM Immigration and got the 90-day reporting cleared up. They did have a bit of trouble understanding why I had not done any 90-day notices since Feb 2014 but we got it sorted out when they finally understood that I travel a lot and was out of the country about every 60 days over that time. As noted by @ubonjoe it was a 2000 baht hit to the wallet but now I have the acknowledgment safely stapled in the passport.

I do have a question though. In addition to the acknowledgment and the receipt for the payment, they also put a stamp in my passport. I am sure it has something to do with the late report as it shows 2000 baht but I have no idea what else it says or means.

Anyone know what the purpose of it could be?

Thanks

David

It is a standard stamp used that states you were fined for doing your 90 day report late.

The 2nd line mentions section 37 clause 5 of the immigration act that is for 90 day reporting
