Chalermkiart Srivorakhan

A Thai man has been arrested at Don Mueang Airport for allegedly trying to smuggle 970 grams of crystal meth or “ice” to Japan, police said.

Pol General Chalermkiart Srivorakhan, the deputy police commissioner-general, told a press conference at the Narcotics Suppression Bureau at 10am Tuesday of the arrest of Meechai Monkhatha, 46.

Chalermkiart said Meechai was arrested on August 16 while about to board a plane to Japan.

He was taken to a room for a thorough check after police noticed that he appeared nervous.

He was wearing two layers of underwear and under the second layer there was a napkin. Police found 370 grams of crystal meth hidden in the napkin, as well as additional drugs in his rectum.

Chalermkiart said the suspect admitted that he had previously smuggled the drug to Japan five times.

More gangs were trying to smuggle drugs to Japan and so police are stepping up their checks of passengers heading there from Thailand, he said.

Cannot understand why someone would just confess to this without any evidence. Surely this statement is likely to increase his sentence.

Ice in underwear? Must have been my ex-wife.

When he gets to court he will need a good "brief"!

yes it's so weird, they often confess dealing since years when it would be so easy to just say that it is the first time. And then some foreigners pretend to ignore how stupid are the locals...

I recall a post relate to another thread I read today: “stupid is as stupid does.”

Partly I'd say to not being that skilled or bright. Secondly I'd say he was probably aggressively questioned and maybe even intimidated.

Maybe the cops gave him a cup of coffee upon detaining him.

Well, his passport will show that he's traveled there 5 previous times, probably all quite recently.....

Poor sucker who unknowingly purchases the rectum-smuggled drugs. Yeah, I know, they were in a condom. But it’s the thought that counts.

The generals have so many drugs here on their watch its now being exported what's going on????

ice in underwear brings new meaning to the term "keeping a cool head"

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...

I HATE people who take drugs!

Like customers officers, policemen.....

"First time, I went to see Tokyo Tower. Second time for Mt. Fuji. Third ... This time I wanted to explore business opportunities..."

Perhaps they are hoping to "confess" as being seen as cooperating with police, and get lighter sentence in court, trade information with police or just to say "You got me this time, but you missed the other six times" 5555
