‘One-man party’ falls into Phalang Pracharat’s arms

The People Reform Party’s leader and sole MP announced on Thursday that he would disband the party and join Phalang Pracharat, which leads the ruling coalition.

 

Paiboon Nititawan said he had spoken to Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, chairman of the Phalang Pracharat strategy committee, about joining the coalition leader once his party was dissolved.

 

The Political Parties Act allows MPs to retain their parliamentary seat if they join another party within 60 days of their original party’s dissolution.

Paiboon said Prawit had welcomed him and promised a role in legal affairs.

 

He said he had to wait until the party was formally disbanded and an announcement to that effect appeared in the Royal Gazette, a process he expected to end within this month.

 

Paiboon proposed shutting down the party because most of its executives were too busy with their personal work to adhere to a law requiring them to establish and develop party branches upcountry.

 

The executive board’s vote to disband was unanimous, he said.

A one-man party? Thailand, you should be embarrassed. 

A traitor to the people who voted for the party.  He gave in to what is going to be offered to him in the future.  The hell with the people what is in it for me is his motto.

I wonder what Ministry the PM will give him as his reward.

Now we know why Prawit is running around trying to get dual ministry holders to give up one of their ministries. It seems they might be expecting a few more of this sort of rabble to defect and who will need rewarding in the usual manner.

Sometimes I just cant believe the rules that have made it into the system. How can this be? Surely if a political party is dissolved the citizens who voted for it have a right to make a new decision as to how they will be represented by a new district election. Yes, you can vote for a person but its just as likely you voted for the party's stance.

According to the Political Party Act Section 11, all political parties must have an executive committee, leader, deputy leader, secretary general, deputy secretary general, treasurer, registrar & spokesman. I guess Paiboon is acting in all that positions all along. Amazing talent in multi-skilling; a one man band. Also amazing flexibility in the Act to allow such shenanigan.

Hardly, anybody who voted Paiboon knows exactly what they were getting. He is a vocal military cheerleader, unelected senator and failed politician. For years he has been a unwanted or unasked for gob<deleted>e..... just search his name, his unashamed love of the military goes back years as do his anti democratic rumblings.

Nice suit and tie, looks expensive.

Surely that should read, "Everybody ................... knows (or should know) exactly what they were getting."

The People Reform Party’s leader got tired of reforming the people and decided to get a second hand watch instead.
