BANGKOK, 23 August 2019(NNT) - In the past year, the Thai herbal market has grown by more than 30 percent, with exports reaching 2.24 billion baht. The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), has, therefore, organized a project to launch high quality Thai herbs on the world market to increase the number of marketing channels and promote sales and publicize quality herbal products. The MOPH aims to make Thailand the number one herb exporter in ASEAN.

Mr. Anuthin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, presided over the announcement of the policy to develop Thai herb sales under the Thailand Kisses the World Project. The government has assigned the MOPH to cooperate with relevant agencies to develop the whole Thai medicinal plant system from upstream to mid-stream and downstream to create economic value for the entire country.

The Master Plan for National Herbal Development No. 1 (2017-2021) sets a goal to double the value of herbal product consumption from 180 billion baht to 360 billion baht and become the number one herbal product exporters and producers in ASEAN. Currently, the world herbal market is worth over 10 billion US dollars. Dietary supplements and cosmeceutical are highly popular. In 2018, the value of herbal product consumption in Thailand was 280.16 billion baht and the value of herbal product exports was 2.24 billion baht. Thailand was ranked 8th in the economic growth rate of herbs, with turmeric as a product champion which is popular on the world market, representing a market value of approximately 570 million US dollars or over 18.24 billion baht.
