The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) will soon look into aviation safety concerns caused by the Central Village project. These concerns will soon be officially raised by the Airports of Thailand (AOT), which is directly in conflict with the outlet.

The concerns are:

1. Possible interference in electronic signals caused by the outlet’s location;

2. Possible visibility problems that may affect pilots and aviation safety;

3. Activities that may create smoke affecting visibility for planes landing at Suvarnabhumi International Airport;

4. Activities that may attract birds, which pose potential threats to planes taking off or landing;

5. Possible effect on the airport’s laser emission-free zone; and

6. Possible intrusion, which may affect traffic near the airport.

Highways Department director-general Anon Luangboriboon said there were around 50 complaints in relation to Central Village’s use of common roads, adding that the Highways Department was not aware of any laws referring to who exactly owns the road or the land in question.

Meanwhile, CAAT director Chula Sukmanop said he has yet to receive a formal request from AOT, though he was aware of its concerns.

Looking at the list 1 to 6 doesn't this apply with all airports here? Chiang Mai airport has all 6 ticked.

Obviously a war between developers and would be developers.

Let the money bargaining begin! Now an opportunity for many more "responsible" authorities to top up their bank accounts......in the name of safety no less.

And now, ladies and gentleman of the foreign business world, I present to you.........Thailand!

This is just unbelievable, surely all the safety points should have been reviewed, sorted out before any development started.

You're asking for common sense to prevail. Would that be before or after pigs are given their own dedicated runway?

All absolute nonsense.  And, they left out the important #7.  The bad smell of some of the foreign shoppers distracting the pilots, causing them to wrinkle their noses, in turn affecting their vision at the critical point of landing the plane.

Wow.. I mean did Changi ever consider that? That whole airport is one big shopping mall... with plane parking spots.

What was that phrase from years ago: Thailand - everything inside out, upside down.

Thais never think until it's done & dusted....

What a load of nonsense. How can a shopping mall of low-rise buildings be a threat to aircraft? Maybe they should visit Vienna, where planes come in over a huge refinery.

I seem to remember the old Hong Kong Kai Tak airport where planes passed perilously close to skyscrapers when approaching.
