Ministry awaits better BoI package for foreign investors

The Economy Ministry has postponed its meeting by a week to September 6, so Board of Investment or BoI can finish reviewing the new package it is offering to encourage foreign investors to move their investments to Thailand, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said on August 29.

He said that though BoI is offering tax incentives to foreign investors, it is not enough compared to other Asean countries that offer them better deals.

“We have to come up a package that is more attractive for them to move their investment to Thailand. The meeting has been rescheduled until September 6, until the BoI comes up with a new package,” he said.

All too late! Foreign and Thai smart money investors have already made their decisions to invest in Vietnam and other Asian countries.

The new revised incentive package will probably have about as much appeal as the old one. In the meantime while they fiddle and diddle around with their packages any remaining foreign investors are considering better deals elsewhere. You can be sure they are not just sitting around waiting for Somkid to get his act together.

What's there to give up? Just telling it as it is or doesn't that suit your point of view.

Your link doesn't work. They have probably trashed it realising it is false news.

Try this one.

Anyway, I saw that link of yours already before I made my post, only shows how much fake news there is out there.

This whole BOI approval stuff has to go if they want money, it costs uneccessary time and money to deal with it.

Just let foreigners own their business in non restricted job areas without all this heck meck if you want them to bring their money in...

Bigger brown envelopes are required but none are available as the other ministries have taken them all!

BOI is cumbersome and slow. Why bother, when there are better alternatives nearby. Unless you need low skilled cheap labor.

Like no North Korea-style TM30 requirement, perhaps?

TM30 has no impact on their investments. Good luck Thailand.

Xinhuanet ---> Parent organization: Xinhua News Agency (Owner: China (state-owned institution))

The Chinese and Vietnamese dont like each other. You are quoting the propaganda arm of the Chinese government.

I bet their BOI package doesn't make any mention of the TM30 reporting. "Please bring your money, oh, and by the way, we will track you like a criminal. Have a nice day."

Ministry version of kicking the can down the road. BOI is an agency of Ministry; not the other way round.
