A trade mission from Turkey met with Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak at Government House today (September 4) on an official visit to Thailand and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), said government spokesperson Narumon Pinyosinwat.

Prior to the meeting, Somkid said that he would use this opportunity to explain Thailand’s economic and investment policies as well as the government’s development strategy for the EEC, hoping to draw more investors from Turkey to the mega-project.

“The government is committed to promoting industries that are driven by innovation and technology,” he said. “Many mega projects in EEC areas will add value to Thailand’s existing products and promote new innovations that will benefit both Thailand and its investing partners.”

Meanwhile, a representative of the Turkish business sector revealed that most of the companies joining the trip are targeted industries for the EEC and are interested in investing in Thailand in their areas of expertise.

“We hope this visit will lead to sustainable cooperation in the future, as Turkey firmly believes that Asia Pacific is the region of growth and investment opportunities, ” he added.

Though the global economy is slowing down due to the prolonged US-China trade war, Thailand still has promising opportunities for investors, Somkis said.

“Thailand has a geographical advantage as a hub for manufacturing and logistics in the Asean region as well as an economic centre for the Mekong sub-region countries (CLMVT).

Just be sure to bring your own skilled workers.

As the first large investor in the EEC, Japan already announced that the EEC is short 30,000 skilled workers.

A canned sum up of glossy generalities that took place in a lovely room amongst well dressed people.  Tons of Chinese are moving their businesses to Vietnam while Sumkid is talking turkey.  Sumkid needs to get an Alibaba account.  Been getting tons of messages from vendors saying they are now building in Vietnam to service US customers.

Turkey is an economic basket case but given time they might be a good fit with Thailand. Turkey at present has a collapsing currency and debt crisis.

Their leader, power hungry President Erdogan and PM Prayut seem to have some things in common. Erdogan appears to make up his road map as he goes along. He is short-tempered and scolds reporters who ask tough questions. They might be a good fit also if they can both go the distance.

Somkid is scraping the bottom of the barrel with Turkey. Even the EU don't want them anymore.

And your own power supply. Solar and wind power don't quite cut it for 24/7 industry.
