I have been trying to find out if my field of work as a lending officer (mortgage lending) is illegal for me to do in Thailand i have been taking lessons in Thai (reading, writing and speaking) but i am not advanced enough to be able to read what is on the Thai labor Dept. web site. I am 33 US male with great sales skills, a knowledge of banking and would like to stay in my profession. I will be in Bangkok next week and was going to approach a number of banks (bribe and few managers with a free lunch so they can be pumped for info) and ask about job openings. The list that i have seen never stated that banking was out of the question (brokers and accountants were). I have also seen job offerings for English speaking lending officers, but as i said the key to all of this will be if i am even aloud to work in the banking industry. If i had a better idea of what was in my limits, I could redirect my search for employment opportunity's accordingly

If you can find an employer, you can get a work permit to work in mortgage lending. Technically, this is either a sales and marketing job, or a consulting job - it just happens to involve financial loans by your employer. It is not a certifiable profession in Thailand - it is the jobs that require professional licensing that are restricted to foreigners.

Good luck!
