Budhipongse Punyakanta

Digital Economy and Society Minister Buddhipongse Punakanta said he plans to set up a network of online senior citizens to help spread accurate information via social networks and counter fake news.

Buddhipongse said the network would be made up of members who are least 60 years old and who may be retired government officials.

The minister said elderly people have good knowledge and have accumulated plenty of experience in their lifetimes that they can share with society. Moreover, a lot of elderly people are now using the social networks and could thus be enlisted to help counter fake news.

Buddhipongse said he has instructed his team of staff to figure out how the network should function.

“There are a lot of elderly groups using Facebook, Line and YouTube. I’ve noticed this from my parents and many persons close to me. They often use Line to share information,” the minister said.

He said his ministry would not create a new app but instead provide a portal website for the elderly and the public to access social networks and apps and other useful webpages through the same site.

The network will also be used to provide information to the elderly how to take care of their own health, the minister added.

:cheesy: Thailand's interpretation - and contribution - to the fourth industrial revolution.

Sorry, age doesn't mean sh*t in a case like this unless it concerns history.

Just because you are old does not mean you are up to date with trending issues. I wonder what powers he is going to give the aged? Or are they just going to correct points of view into what they believe?

And it will only take 3-weeks or more to get a password after you have registered if at all!?!?!?!?

An opportunity to dust off the old uniform.

Will there be new medals?

Where is the ENTER button ??

Interestingly, that is the the same age group in which the junta found much of it's support. They believe Thailand has been returned to happiness.

A clear and comprehensive description of fake news might be useful.

This latest example of bureaucratic lunacy just goes on getting better and better.

A good example might be a story about a bunch of retired old farts being able to distinguish stork from butter.

You can't do anything against fake news except maybe spreading more fake news.

What has happened to Thailand? It just appears to be sinking under it own weight. Poorly thought through idea after poorly thought through idea.

I'm still in shock about the travesty they call an e-Visa.

Now this? Cringe-worthy.

Nuff said!

So it will be a new computer crime act against dissidents and the ones who will decide if the subject are fit for punishment will be 60+ year loyalists.

Reading this, I had to check to make sure it wasn't April 1st.
